You must enter the cave to play poker

A long long time ago, when Onion and Clay still lived at 1205 Marine (Boy do i miss those days), the boys talked about making the garage into a poker room. At first I was completely against it. I thought all of this talk seemed ridiculous and I didn't want it to happen. But, the more I thought about it the better it sounded. I thought it would be good for David to be able to have a poker area. Especially since I prefer (forbid) multiple cigar smoking intoxicatedish men to let loose in my living room or any other room in my house. Well, post Ike. The garage was trashed. A big MESS! And then I changed jobs and had all of my 37 boxes of school stuff transferred to my new school. I found out that I would be a rotating teacher and wouldn't have a room or anywhere to put my things. Well I had to take ALL of those boxes home and store them in the garage=no man cave. Well, my position changed again due to the large number of prek students yet i still don't have my own room. David and I decided that i would bring all of my stuff back to school regardless of the room situation. So being the good husband that he is he loaded and unloaded all of my boxes. He was so happy to have his garage back. This was almost two weeks ago. Well tonight he is hosting poker night in his cave. A torch is burning in the front yard to symbolize the beginning of the cave. FYI he is sporting his velour puma suit for good luck!

Grandmommy Came to Town

We were excited that Grandmommy came to visit a couple of weekends ago. We did the family dinner thing at Sonny's on Friday night and called it a night. Saturday, we had mexican breakfast and Elle and grandmommy had some bonding time. Grandmommy helped Daddy organize the garage "man cave". Sunday Grandmommy and Cricket headed home. We really enjoyed our visit with them! Thanks for coming grandmommy.

14 months old

punkin' girl Elle,

You are amazing. Truly amazing. We are blown away by the things that you do every day. You really do understand everything that we ask you to do or tell you. We test you with it daily. We will ask you to take something to another person or animal. You think about what we are asking and normally complete the task. You are starting to categorize things in your play. (Mommy is a pre-k teacher and meemom a retired teacher, we notice these things). You take out one horse/fish/big cat and then search through all of the animals for minutes at a time until you find the match. You are obsessed with all things ELMO! We have Elmo's in all sizes, elmos that talk and laugh and move, elmo shirts, an elmo ride on helicopter(thanks aunt catherine), elmo bath toys and you still can't get enough of elmo. Sesame Street characters are on the front of all of the Earth's Best products and your daddy actually thought that is why I was buying them. Daddy is so silly.
You point to everything and wait for us to explain it to you. You have a DaDa chant that you do for Daddy multiple times a day. he loves it and is so proud. You point out people and animal noses. You climb on EVERYTHING. You really scare us all with the climbing. You just can't help yourself. Catherine and I scored a climbing rock wall/slide at target after Christmas that you love.
You have also really enjoyed the cold weather. You giggle with delight when that cold wind hits those sweet cheeks. You get very frustrated if the weather is bad and you can't go outside.
The dogs and cats are your favorite by far. They get more pats and kisses than Daddy and I combined! Your favorite is still buddy "Bob" as you have renamed him. You squeal and giggle when you see him. You sing songs about him and you tackle him and pat and kiss and pat and kiss. Bob is a GOOD cat and I can't believe he takes all the abuse. Bob is no spring chicken but he wins a prize.
We love you so much and think that you are so fun. You entertain yourself for periods of time playing with your toys or reading books. You love reading books! You are starting to pretend to read to momma and I love it. Bath time continues to be a family favorite! I can't believe you are already 14 months. This time has gone by way too fast and doesn't seem to be slowing down. We love you so much baby Girl.

Love,
Momma

My Island Girl

Elle's first try at meat was on Thanksgiving. I even splurged on the organic turkey so that I would be comfortable giving her good meat on her first try. She wanted nothing to do with it. She spit it out immediately. Her second try was on a perfectly cooked filet. She once again refused it. David and I decided we will not force her to eat meat. Don't get me wrong she eats lots of things. She likes toast, cereal, bagels, raisin bread, crackers, cheese, yogurt, apple sauce, apples, pears, bananas, grapes, blueberries, peaches, broccoli, squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, zucchini, avocados, tofu, tortillas, maccaroni and cheese, risotto, grilled cheese sandwiches, kiwi, and much much more. We will just make sure that she is getting enough protien from other places. Well lo and behold she ate some fresh snapper tonight that Meemom prepared for us and loved it. So she might not do the meat thing but likes seafood. That's my girl!! I told Daddy he needs to provide her with snapper from Katie's Seafood at least twice a week. She and Mommy can grow quite accustomed to it. David's reply "She better learn to like tilapia".
